Day of the Dead

George A Romero
1985
Available uncut in the
UK on DVD and new release video. : Note : cover shown is from
earlier cut release.
A true horror classic which ends the trilogy in
style and leaves you wanting more, who knows when Romero will get
round to doing another one ?)" Day of the Dead" takes
the story on from "Dawn" and brings it towards
something like a conclusion, and marks a departure from the first
two films by actually having a happy ending although that's not a
plus point in my book, I prefer the down beat ending of the first
two.
The living have lost the war and now the dead
have taken over. A small pocket of survivors consisting of a
military and scientific team staying in a secure underground
bunker doing research, trying to find an answer to why the dead
are walking, and also trying to find any other survivors, but
without much success. The sequence of events that follow ultimately lead to their
self destruction and an explosive final
battle.
What can I say about this film?, if you haven't
seen it yet put it to the top of your list and see what you've
been missing. A zombie film fans dream come true.
Gore
You name it, the usual gunshots to the head
are as effective as ever spraying brains everywhere on plenty of
occasions. Decapitation, amputation, bodies pulled in half,
entrails eaten, throat rippings, the list goes on and on.
Special note though must go to the nasty
medical experiments that are carried out on the zombies and dead
soldiers, watch and be amazed.
