Murder Set Pieces

This film has gathered quite a reputation for itself in the years after release as one of the most brutal horror films ever and while i wouldn't go as far as to say that it certainly is an ultra violent and nasty trip you wont soon forget. The film centres around a photographer who basically films naked models and then brutalises them in as sadistic a manner as possible, and while the shocking scenes defiantly deliver on the splatter scale there are more things going on that would have the censors grabbing for their scissors. The sexualised violence reminded me of American Psycho but turned up to eleven, with a particular scene when he is in bed with two models having sex when he pulls out his favourite tool of the trade, a cut throat razor, and starts slashing them up. Scenes like that never sit well with the censors, also in another scene he stabs a young girl to death and while its not gratuitous or drawn out its still pretty strong stuff that would defiantly have viewers turning off. Not to mention the nutter has a torture chamber in his basement when he has fun with sharp tools and chainsaws, you get the idea. Special mention from me must go to the actor playing the photographer, that guy was intense in this film, he carried the whole film for me and was totally believable as the german with a deep seated hatred of women and nazi tendancies. In his mind all the women are sluts and are getting exactly what they deserve, he comes across as completely crazy and unpredictable but strangely cool. I really enjoyed this movie and I've seen both the cut and uncut versions, they are both enjoyable with the obvious trimming of some of the murders and tortures. Ultra violence and gore made with an old school anything goes attitude. Recommended |
