90min

The Horde tells the story of a revenge mission by a group of police officers. A criminal gang has murdered some cops and taken others hostage, the cops decide to take them out in their own building, a high rise apartment block taken over by the gang. What starts off as a fight between the police and the gang soon turns into a desperate fight for survival against a new threat. The dead are returning to life and are killing every living person they can find.

This French made zombie apocalypse is one of the best full on zombie movies to appear for quite some time. The undead are in the 28 Days Later mould and are fast moving and ferocious. The group of survivors decide to try and escape the building before its too late. The sense of panic and urgency you get from this film are great, early on its made very clear just how hard these monsters are to kill and it seems a truly hopeless cause for the survivors. The characters In the film are very memorable and distinctive long after the film has finished, with the gun toting crazy old man being a particular standout, he is hilarious and brings a welcome comedy element to the movie. The effects are excellent and certainly don't come across as low budget at all.

Zombie fans will absolutely lap this up, its a modern zombie movie the the cool vibe of an old school zombie bloodbath. Even people who are not fans of the genre will find plenty of full on action sequences. This is essential viewing.

The version I watched was french with english subtitles but if you prefer, the dvd has a dubbed to english audio track.
