I had high hopes for this one after seeing the trailer a while back. Unfortunately this doesn't live up to the hype, and certainly doesn't do a director like Carpenter justice. The tale of a group of modern day vampire slayers employed by the church, who travel round the world looking for vampires to wipe out, so far so good! Only it's played like a western - a bad one.

It lost me in the first scene where they take on a house full of bloodsuckers, James woods plays the leader of the slayers whose parents were wiped out by Vampires.....Blah Blah You get the story! They take on the vampires in such a slapdash way that you wonder how the hell they're supposed to have survived countless encounters with them in the past!  I'm probably being over critical here, but I was expecting something so much better. Most people will actually enjoy this as long as they watch it with the right frame of mind. There are some cool gore fx including a guy getting sliced in half and sliding apart.

As far as the DVD goes this gets top marks. The picture is one of the best I've seen and the extras are good value too.
